Florida Agriculture and Natural Information

Florida may only be the 22nd state in size, but it is also the fourth largest economy in the United States. The brunt of its economy lies on agriculture and tourism.

The economy of Florida was historically built upon cattle farming and agriculture. Agricultural products native to the state include sugarcane, celery, tomatoes, and strawberries, but it's its oranges that have become the trademark export product, so much so that orange juice is the state's official beverage. In 2006, 74 per cent of oranges grown in the United States alone came from Florida. Other popular citrus fruits produced in Florida are tangerines and grapefruit. Florida is also the country's largest producer of sweet corn and green beans. The major concerns that Florida's agriculture faces today include water pollution and citrus canker.

As far as tourism goes, Florida is one of the preferred destinations for tourists from all over the world, thanks in no small part to its hundreds of miles of sunny beaches. But Florida features more attractions other than its natural beauties, such as theme parks, vacations resorts, luxury hotels, film studios and space centers. In particular, more than 40% of the inhabitants of the Northeast United states planned to visit Florida during 2011's spring break, and in general, the state attracts an average of 60 million visitors every year.
